NIHR delegation attends UNHRC session.

Geneva, Sep. 14 (BNA): A delegation representing the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) attended the 33rd session of the Human Rights Council (UNHRC) which opened yesterday at the UN Palace in Geneva.

The delegation included NIHR Vice Chairman Abdulla Al-Derazi, NIHR Board of Commissioners Dr. Hameed Hussain, Complaints, Survey and Follow-up Committee member and Eman Ali, Committees' Affairs Chief.

The session will discuss the situation in Syria and human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, Libya, Sudan, Somalia, Cambodia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of South Africa and Burundi.

The delegation met Swiss Permanent Ambassador in Geneva Valentin Zellweger and briefed him on NIHR --led efforts to disseminate the culture of human rights and hold training programmes.

The Swiss ambassador hailed NIHR role, stressing the importance of participating in international arenas dealing with human rights to gain expertise and transfer successful practices.
