NIGERIA - Profile - Dr. Doyin Okupe.

Made President Obasanjo's official spokesman in late May 1999, Dr. Okupe has been a prominent professor. He joined the new civilian administration with a brief to project its liberal approach and its drive to stamp out corruption and mismanagement of the country's resources.

Dr. Okupe has been close to Obasanjo for some time. He became his aides soon after Obasanjo was elected president. He was the man who on May 31 announced the suspension of all deals and appointments made by the previous government from Jan. 1, 1999.
