NIELSEN COMMISSIONS FIRST-EVER STUDY TO EXPLORE OUTSOURCING ITS INFORMATION PROCESSING

CHICAGO, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Nielsen Marketing Research USA (NMR USA), the world leader for marketing information and analysis, today announced it has commissioned the leader in specialized information technology services, Integrated Systems Solutions Corp. (ISSC), to evaluate the feasibility of outsourcing information processing for the Nielsen Information Services business unit.
Nielsen, one of the country's largest users of computer capacity, has been modeled by industry experts for its data center and consistently rates above the industry average for efficiency. "A shift to outsourcing could help us further strengthen our focus on delivering value-added services and insights to our customers," said Unit President Richard P. Derr, Nielsen Information Services, NMR USA. "Outsourcing could advance Nielsen's rapid growth, providing information in real- time, shorter cycle times and increase our flexibility," Derr explained.
The potential outsourcing of information processing is a first in the marketing research industry, given the size, scale and sophistication of Nielsen operations. ISSC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of IBM, has many major contracts including Eastman Kodak Co., Chase Manhattan Bank, drugstore chain Hook-SuperX, and most recently, a multi-billion dollar contract to outsource the computer operations of McDonnell Douglas.
According to Derr, "We are continuing to leverage Nielsen's resources against the needs of retailers and manufacturers. By exploring the options of working with organizations like ISSC, we continue our commitment of providing business solutions through sophisticated software, systems and expert analysis."
Nielsen Information Services, along with Nielsen Software and Systems, Nielsen Household Services and Nielsen Client Service, comprise NMR USA. Headquartered in Northbrook, Ill., a Chicago suburb, NMR USA is the recognized global leader in marketing and decision support information. As a strategic partner with the world's top consumer packaged goods companies, Nielsen has been the primary supplier of information-based systems and analysis for nearly 70 years. Nielsen created and built the decision support information business overseas, beginning its global drive more than 50 years ago. Today, the company has operations in over 29 countries worldwide. Nielsen Marketing Research is a company of the Dun & Bradstreet Corp. (DNB), the world's largest supplier of business information and related services.
