NICVD announces its third successful artificial heart transplantation.

KARACHI -- The National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) on Thursday announced that a team of its surgeons had successfully implanted the Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD), commonly known as a 'mechanical pump', in the chest of a male patient.

This is the third successful transplantation by the NICVD. Dr Pervaiz Khan informed that a mechanical heart was implanted in the chest of Banaras Khan 58, after which he had been shifted to Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

It needs to be mentioned here that the first successful operation was conducted on July 9. The transplantation team led by Dr. Pervaiz Chaudhry and other surgeons from US had successfully implanted an artificial heart LVAD to a female patient.
