NICOLA WILKES A question of design www.walesathome.co.uk.
Q. I'm looking for a feature mirror to hang above my fireplace which is a simple combination of slate and reclaimed wood. I've also painted the chimney breast a dark grey so I want something that's going to make a real statement. Any suggestions? A. 'Design statement' you say? I just adore this Tiffany Gold Facet Mirror from Alexander & Pearl, www.alexanderandpearl.co.uk, 0208 508 0411, and I think it would look fantastic set against such a dark backdrop as well as being a complete contrast to the natural elements of the fireplace itself.
With a deluxe faceted frame and finished in hand applied gold leaf, this mirror will creating a stunning effect when the reflects from the angled frame. It measures 152cm high x 93cm and it's also worth noting, weighs 16kg and costs pounds 795. Just remember to allow approximately four to six weeks delivery from order date.
Q. Is there a modern alternative to traditional shutters? I love the look and feel they give but they just won't suit my modern house, yet I want all the function of them.
A Parapan are a contemporary version of what's termed the 'plantation' shutter that you refer to although they are joined and hung in the same way as louvered shutters. New on the market and created by designer Alison White, the clean lines of these Parapan acrylic shutters and 4mm opaque design will enable you not only to maximize the amount of light in your living space but offer added privacy. The verticals are made from 18mm Parapan which gives a unique high gloss finish without the need for lacquer or veneer. The material is also totally water resistant which makes it practical for areas where moisture is present as well as being easy to clean and maintain. They are available in 22 colours from vibrant brights to sophisticated neutrals and can be made to any size. For orders, contact Alison White on 020 8245 1832, www.alisonwhite.co.uk.
