NICHE NETWORKS, INC. COMPLETES TAVERN TELEVISION ASSET ACQUISITION; MADISON GROUP ASSOCIATES, INC. SUBSIDIARY TO LAUNCH NEW NETWORK

SPRINGFIELD, Va., Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Niche Networks, Inc., (Niche), a wholly owned subsidiary of Madison Group Associates, Inc. (NASDAQ: MADI) today announced that it had completed the acquisition of all of the assets of the closed circuit television service "Tavern Television" from the North American Bar Network, L.P. (NABN).
Tavern Television, or "TTV" as it was called, was a satellite television service delivering sports programming and sports news to bars and restaurants throughout North America and was on the air from Aug. 1, 1992 until March 31, 1993, when NABN terminated its operation. Niche was one of the original partners in NABN with Amcom, Inc., a subsidiary of Canadian Satellite Communications, Inc.
According to Jerry Fischette, president of Niche, the assets, which include nearly all of the hardware, software and office facilities used in the operation of Tavern Television, will be used to launch a new sports programming and information network later this year or in early 1994. "The concept behind Tavern Television was excellent and the network was poised for very significant expansion when it left the air. We plan to build on the TTV foundation and operate a very unique and attractive television programming service under a new name. While we will continue to program much of network for the commercial market (i.e., for bars and restaurants), we will make the service available to individual home satellite consumers and, hopefully, cable systems as well," Fischette said.
Niche Networks, Inc. was purchased in June of this year by Madison Group Associates, Inc., a Fort Lauderdale, Fla. company which is engaged in various telecommunications operations. William Craig, Madison's CEO, sees Niche and its new network as an outlet for the extensive sports programming library owned by Madison. "The fit between Madison and Niche was excellent, and with the acquisition of the Tavern Television assets we are in a position to quickly launch a new satellite delivered sports network that will have very broad appeal both in the U.S. and in the international market," Craig said. While the final design of the new network is not complete, both Craig and Fischette indicate that it will include classic sports footage, international sporting events, and up-to-the-minute sports scores, standings, news and games available at the touch of a button through an interactive television system.
Niche will operate the new network out of the offices formerly occupied by Tavern Television in Newington, Va.
