NHS swindler cleans up pounds 2300 in sick pay.
A CLEANER who claimed pounds 2300 in sick pay while working elsewhere paid the penalty yesterday.
Glasgow Royal Infirmary worker Mary Best swindled the cash over four months before being caught working at Strathclyde University.
Best, 40, was nabbed after her bosses got a tip-off and an investigation was launched by NHS fraud chiefs.
Sentencing her to 150 hours' communit y service yesterday, Glasgow sheriff John McCormick told Best she would also have to pay back the money.
At an earlier hearing, Best, of Dalilea Drive, Easterhouse, Glasgow, admitted defrauding pounds 2305.35 from the NHS between June 23 and October 18, 2009. Sarah Mobsby, prosecuting, told the court Best had obtained medical cer t i f icates to cover the period she was off sick Kevin Hughes, defending, said his client accepted she had commi t ted a "ver y serious" offence.
He added that Best resigned from the NHS last November and had made no repayments to her former bosses to date.
NHS Scotland condemned Best's actions.
