NGOs present proposals for promotion of human rights mechanism in Tunisia.

TUNIS (TAP)- Human rights organisations presented Wednesday in Tunis proposals to Human Rights and Transitional Justice Minister Samir Dilou, the purpose being to enhance the human rights mechanism in Tunisia, said Tunisian Human Rights League (LTDH) Deputy President Balkis Michri at the end of a meeting with Mr. Dilou.

The Human Rights and Transitional Justice Minister received two delegations representing the Maghreb Co-ordination of Human Rights Organisations and Tunisia's Monitoring Group of International Freedom of Expression Exchange (TMG and IFEX). "Partnership between the government and the civil society in this field remains below expectations," said Mrs. Michri, indicating that the meeting was an occasion to review the compared experiences in matters of transitional justice and make known Maghreb Co-ordination of Human Rights Organisations.

She specified that the Co-ordination delegation, created in 2006 and made up of 24 human rights organisations, will meet President of the Republic Moncef Marzouki and Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali.

In turn, TGM and IFEX President Virginie Jouan said the meeting with Mr. Dilou had provided the occasion to evoke issues related to the decrees 115 and 116 organising the media sector.

Mr. Fahem Boukaddous, member of IFEX Group, voiced the organisation's concern over the situation of freedom of expression in Tunisia, evoking "the abuse against the journalists after the Revolution preventing them from accomplishing their missions."
