NFFA adds word `refrigerated' to name, but insists its mission remains the same.

Looking for the National Frozen Food Association (NFFA)? It's now the National Frozen & Refrigerated Foods Association (NFRA). Members voted overwhelmingly for the change in a poll, results of which were announced Oct. 9.

Meanwhile, Daryl Mills was elected chairman of the NFRA board. Director of strategy and business practice at Winn-Dixie Stores, Mills succeeds Tim Carper, president and ceo of F.A.B., Inc. He has been active in the association for many years, as advisory director 1995-96, treasurer 19961998 and secretary 1999-2000.

Other new officers of the renamed trade group are: Bob Smith of Nestle USA as chairman elect, Don Hughes of Performance Food Group as vice chairmanfoodservice, Johnny L. Harris of Harris-Teeter as vice chairmanretail, John Bottomley of Sargento

Foods as vice chairman-refrigerated, Bryan Nichols of Marsh Supermarkets as secretary, and Ray Tarnowski of Philadelphia Warehouse & Cold Storage as treasurer.

The election of Bottomley, whose company is in the cheese business, is a signal of the NFRA's new role. "The incorporation of refrigerated foods as a part of NFRA has received extensive study during the past year," a press release in advance of the poll explained. "The synergies between the frozen and refrigerated categories at both the retail and foodservice levels make the change a logical and beneficial step," opined Mills afterwards.

NFRA won't reduce its focus on frozen foods, the leadership insisted; indeed, that focus will be "stronger than ever." One example cited is a new public relations/marketing campaign, "Bring Us To Your Table! -- Freezer Favorites."
