 NEWTON MAN INDICTED ON CHARGES OF INCOME TAX EVASION
 BOSTON, July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. Attorney A. John Pappalardo


announced today that Stanley K. Block, 54, of 128 Cynthia Road, Newton, was indicted on income tax charges by a federal grand jury in Boston.
 Block is the owner and operator of Geneva Auto Body, located at 14 Miner St., Boston. The six-count indictment charges that Block willfully filed false corporate tax returns for Geneva Auto Body and willfully attempted to evade and defeat his individual income tax liabilities for the years 1985, 1986, and 1987.
 If convicted on all counts, Block faces a maximum sentence of 24 years in jail and a fine of $1.5 million.
 According to Pappalardo, the indictment alleges that Block understated income on his corporate returns by approximately $388,568 for 1985, $644,134 for 1986, and $749,581 for 1987. The indictment also alleges that Block evaded individual income taxes of approximately $29,768 for 1985, $25,460 for 1986, and $312,704 for 1987.
 This case was investigated by the Criminal Investigated Division of the Internal Revenue Service, Boston District, and is being prosecuted by James W. Chapman Jr. and Mary L. Burke of the Department of Justice, Tax Division, Washington, D.C.
