email: RYDAL Penrhos under-8s won the opening leg of the annual Cooper Cup fixture with a fiercely contested 7-4 win over local rivals Colwyn Bay.

Freddie Spillane scored a hat-trick of tries with Rydal captain James Copeland helping himself to two scores. Josh Stewart and Henry Battersby scored a try each, while the Bay replied with tries from Morgan Workman (2), Jamie Cosgrove and Oliver Williams.

Colwyn Bay U16s continued their excellent run of form with a 41-19 win over Bangor. Tries from Jacob Weigh, Harri Chinery Parkes (2), Jake Wilson, David Edwards, Remy Sheil and Luke Rawicki ensured the victory. A combined Denbigh U8s/U9s team went down to two defeats against Rhyl, losing 5-2 and 6-4, with their tries coming from Gethin Rodgers, Gethin Williams (3) and William Jones (2).

Denbigh U10s ran out 52-14 winners at Rhyl with Owain John Jones running in four tries. Gethin Williams crossed for two, while George Smith Williams and Lewys Jones also touched down. George Smith Williams, Guto Griffiths and Gethin Williams shared the conversions.

Denbigh U11s went down to a 33-14 defeat at Rhyl with Owain John Jones and Dafydd Morris scoring their only tries, both converted by Ferdinand Murry. Caernarfon U14s sealed a 51-10 win at Nant Conwy.

Owain Williams grabbed a hat-trick along with tries by Morgan Terfel (2), Dion Owen, Ifan Llewelyn, Robin Williams and Ancel Davison, with Sion Williams and Morgan Terfel kicking the conversions. Nant Conwy U11s earned a narrow 26-21 win at Caernarfon. Deian Roberts (2), Dylan Jones and Ifan Hughes all crossed for tries, with Owen Ellis adding three conversions. Nant Conwy U10s claimed back-to-back wins over Caernarfon, running out 41-14 and 33-7 winners.

Nant's tries came from Morgan Williams (2), Aron Jones (5), Siencyn Metcalf (2), Rhodri Pyrs (2) and Tomos Hughes, with the conversions being shared between Rhiallt Ellis, Siencyn Metcalf, Adam Jones, Morgan Williams, Rhodri Pyrs and Llion Jones. Nant Conwy U12s were too much for their Caernarfon counterparts as they secured a 53-0 win.

Idris Williams, Penri Metcalfe (2), Howard Wingfield (2), Brenig Hughes, Eban Jones, Jacob Evans and James Goodwin all went over for tries, while Berwyn Hughes (2) and Ifan Jones (2) added the extras.
