NEWS CORPORATION ANNOUNCES NEW EXECUTIVE APPOINTMENTS TO NEWS DATACOM SUBSIDIARY

 NEW YORK, Nov. 30 ~PRNewswire~ -- August A. Fischer, chief operating officer of The News Corporation Limited (NYSE: NWS) announced today the appointment of Stephen Barden as world-wide chief executive and managing director of News Datacom Limited, a subsidiary of News Corporation's London-based News International, Plc. The appointment is effective Jan. 1, 1993.
 Mr. Barden comes to News Datacom (NDC) from British Sky Broadcasting (BSkyB) where he is currently general manager. He joined the satellite network in February as Business Manager and was promoted to GM three months later. Prior to that he was managing editor of the Independent Television Breakfast Station, TV-an. His career as a manager and journalist in radio and television spans 22 years. He is a graduate of the Program for Management Development at the Harvard Business School.
 Tom Price, the current managing director, has been appointed deputy managing director and chief operating officer and will continue to administer the day to day affairs of the organization.
 News Datacom in Menlo Park, California expands its North American presence with the addition of two veteran satellite industry executives.
 Douglas H. Lindquist, senior vice president, sales and marketing joins News Datacom following a 19 year career in the subscription television business with Oak Industries, General Instrument's VideoCipher division, and most recently as vice president sales and marketing for HTS~Echosphere, the largest US manufacturer and distributor of home satellite receiver~descramblers.
 Norman F. Reinhart, vice president, New Business Development joins News Datacom from General Instrument's Videocipher Division in San Diego.
 "We have aggressive plans to offer our expertise in the areas of secure encryption algorithms, identification and authentication through conditional access systems, and subscriber management services to potential customers on a global basis", said August Fischer.
 News Datacom is a key company in the recently created News Technology Group of News Corporation, and has set the standard for encryption, media access control and subscriber management technology in the United Kingdom. NDC has designed conditional access control software and subscriber management services for more than 20 companies worldwide including British Sky Broadcasting, the world's largest smart card based satellite direct-to-home subscription television service. NDC has also been selected by Hughes Corporation to provide the conditional access control system for its Direct TV DBS service planned for launch in the US in early 1994.
