NEWEST CONCEPT IN RECREATIONAL BOATING TO BE DEBUTED
SEPT. 30 IN NEW YORK BY WORLD'S LARGEST BOAT MANUFACTURER
NEW YORK, Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- With one eye on sales and the other on changing demographics, boat manufacturers are vying for the hearts (and pocketbooks) of younger consumers with a revolutionary new generation of boats which combine the technology, fun and ease of jet- propelled personal watercraft such as jet skis and water bikes, with the design, power and versatility of more conventional boats.
On Sept. 30 in New York, Bayliner, the world's largest manufacturer of pleasure boats and a division of Brunswick, will unveil JAZZ, a 14-foot, jet-propelled boat which is easy to maneuver, can cut sharp turns and can operate in as little as six inches of water -- and yet can be used for more traditional boating activities such as skiing, diving and sunning.
Said Jim Hoag, president and CEO of Bayliner's parent company, US Marine: "With JAZZ we have taken the personal watercraft market to the next level by offering a new type of boat that would appeal to the owners of personal watercraft as well as those who may have been somewhat intimidated by traditional boats."
Jet propelled personal water vehicles have been the fastest growing -- and perhaps the most highly visible -- segment of the boating market over the past few year. Fun, easy to handle and highly popular with younger buyers, sales of personal watercraft have remained resilient even as the rest of the boating industry struggled through the recession and new taxes.
Several other major boat manufacturers have their own versions of jet-propelled boats in various stages of development, and within the next few months there should be several models on the market. Hoag contends that the boats are expected to draw consumers back to boat dealerships -- according to Boating magazine, most personal watercraft are now sold in motorcycle shops.
