NEWBRIDGE SUPPLIES ATM PRODUCTS FOR OCRI NETWORK

 KANATA, Ont., Nov. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Newbridge Networks Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: NNCXF) today announced that the Newbridge(R) 36150 MainStreet(R) ATMnet(TM) product has been selected by the Ottawa Carleton Research Institute (OCRI) to be deployed in Canada's first metropolitan ATM broadband network dedicated to reserach and development. The network, announced today in Ottawa, will link together university, government and industry R&D centers in the greater Ottawa area. It will be used for research and development of ATM technology and applications based on broadband networks, including field trials of new equipment.
 Speaking at announcement ceremonies, Newbridge Chairman and CEO Terry Matthews said, "This project is an excellent example of the collaboration of industry and government. The state-of-the-art ATM network will impact the emergence of the new technology not only in the Ottawa area but throughout the world." In attendance were industry leaders, the federal Minister of Industry, Science and Technology John Manley, and Province of Ontario Premier Bob Rae.
 In addition to Newbridge, founding members of the network include Stentor, Bell Canada, Northern Telecom, Mitel, Gandalf, Telesat, Carleton University, University of Ottawa, Algonquin College, the federal government's Communications Research Centre, and the National Research Council of Canada.
 OCRI, a high technology cooperative, is a consortium of post- secondary academic institutions, government and industry building on the high technology research excellence in Ottawa-Carleton.
