 NEWBRIDGE MICROSYSTEMS INTRODUCES NEW DES ENCRYPTION PROCESSOR@
 SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Newbridge Microsystems has unveiled two new DES Encryption Processors, the CA95C68 and CA95C18. Both processors are compatible with, but have been enhanced over, existing AMD parts. Implemented in low-power, high-speed CMOS, the two processors provide security for high-throughput applications and both implement the National Bureau of Standards Data Encryption Standard (DES), the most widely used secure encryption algorithm.
 Jim Roche, director of marketing at Newbridge Microsystems commented, "The CA95C68 and CA95C18 complement our existing encryption product family, making Newbridge one of the key players in this market. The processors will be used in diverse applications including electronic funds transfer, secure FAX modems, and TV signal scramblers. The higher encryption rates and single-bit cipher feedback mode are also ideally suited for high-speed serial data encryption."
 Using a pipelined architecture, the two processors can encrypt data at more than 13 Mbytes/s -- fast enough to encrypt, for example, an Ethernet link at full speed. Differing only in their microprocessor interface, the devices have three separate key registers that can be battery backed-up, allowing secure key injection. The chips support three standard ciphering modes including a unique single-bit cipher feedback needed for secure communications in bit-error prone environments like public networks.
 The CA95C18 and CA95C68 are available in either a 40-pin PDIP or 44-pin PLCC package in commercial temperature ranges. The devices are priced at $25 each in 1000 unit quantities.
 Newbridge Microsystems has also started production of its other DES encryptor, the CA20C03A, at a second wafer foundry in order to guarantee commercial and military customers security of supply. The CA20C03A, compatible with an older Western Digital part, is priced at $15 in 1000 unit quantities.
