 NEWBRIDGE APPOINTS DR. JOHN THYNNE TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS
 KANATA, Ontario, July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of directors of


Newbridge Networks Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: NNCXF) has approved the appointment of John Thynne CB, Ph.D., DSc as a member of the board.
 Dr. Thynne, director general of the Electronic Components Industry Federation in London, England, is the former Under-Secretary and Head of the Information Technology Division of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in the United Kingdom. He has also held the post of Counsellor at the British Embassy in Moscow responsible for Scientific and Technological matters.
 Terry Matthews, Newbridge chairman, commenting on the appointment said, "Newbridge is honoured that Dr. Thynne has agreed to serve as a director of the company. His extensive experience in the field of information technology and his links to industry and academia in Europe will benefit Newbridge particularly as the company expands its European markets."
 Other positions currently held by Dr. Thynne include director, European board, NTT (Japan); senior international adviser, InterMatrix Ltd.; director, Camrose Consultancy Services; governor, the Polytechnic of Wales; deputy chairman of trustees, Museum of Science & Industry; member, management board, Royal Society Science & Engineering Policy Unit. He is also a consultant to a number of companies in the information technology area.
