NEWBRIDGE AND MERCURY SIGN MAJOR AGREEMENT
KANATA, Ontario, March 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Mercury Communications and

Newbridge Networks Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: NNCXF) have signed a major agreement enabling the Mercury systems integration division, Mercury DataComs, to distribute the full range of Newbridge networking products within the UK over the next three years.
The deal follows a highly successful one year agreement between the two companies during which time Mercury doubled originally expected sales figures of Newbridge products to $8 million. Mercury now expects to build on this by achieving in excess of $60 million of Newbridge product sales by 1994.
Terry Matthews, Newbridge chairman, commented, "The combination of the highly innovative and extremely flexible Newbridge product range, and Mercury's expertise in the UK market will ensure the success of this venture."
Peter Bury, director of corporate products at Mercury, added, "This is the most important strategic partnership that Mercury has formed in the field of data communications so far. We have every confidence in the Newbridge product range and confidently expect to achieve the targets which we have set ourselves. Our aim is to win more than 12 percent of the UK networking Customer Premise Equipment market by 1994."
Outside the UK, Mercury combines with Cable & Wireless, its parent company, and Newbridge to provide full support for customers' international networks.
This agreement enables Mercury to market a product range which has been designed to exploit the potential of private and public digital networks. The agreement covers the complete range of Newbridge networking products including wide area networking bandwidth managers, local area interconnection devices (bridges and routers), ISDN access devices and network management systems.
Mercury Communications is a wholly owned subsidiary of Cable & Wireless plc and is licensed as a Public Telecommunications Operator in the United Kingdom.
Newbridge Networks is an international company which designs, manufactures, markets and services multimedia, standards-based networking products for global LAN and WAN applications, all manageable by a single, graphically rich network management system.
