NEWBRIDGE & SIEMENS AWARDED MAJOR DBP-TELEKOM PROJECT

 NEWBRIDGE & SIEMENS AWARDED MAJOR DBP-TELEKOM PROJECT@
KANATA, Ontario, April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Newbridge Networks

(NASDAQ-NMS: NNCXF) and Siemens AG today announced the completion of Phase 1 of the newly launched DBP-Telekom (Deutches Bundespost) City Data Net (CDN) service in Germany. Phase 1, worth in excess of $1 million, forms part of a portfolio of managed bandwidth services which the DBP is offering nation-wide in Germany.
The CDN, officially launched at the recent Cebit show in Hanover, is a national backbone network linking all the major industrial and commercial centers in Germany. It offers a range of advanced managed bandwidth services to corporations.
"The capabilities of the Newbridge product range and the power of its network management system were definite factors in our choice of networking equipment," said Werner Zitzen, head of product management at Siemens AG Public Switching Systems division. "Flexibility and rapid provision of service are the main features customers demand from these types of advanced managed bandwidth services and the CDN is positioned to meet those criteria," he added.
The backbone network is based on the Newbridge 3600 MainStreet(R) Bandwidth Manager, the 3645 MainStreet High Capacity Bandwidth Manager and the 3612 MainStreet Narrowband Multiplexer. The network will be managed by the 4602 MainStreet Intelligent NetworkStation(TM) including the advanced range of network partitioning capabilities which allow DBP- Telekom to offer customized Virtual Backbone Networks (VBNs) to users. The partitioning capability allows the service provider to 'firewall' allocated bandwidth between users, ensuring a continuous, undisturbed and secure service.
Bert Whyte, vice president of Business Networks at Newbridge Europe added, "The CDN is an important ongoing project for Newbridge and Siemens. DBP-Telekom has already contracted a large insurance company and the potential for further success is evident. The unique ability of Newbridge to 'firewall' bandwidth within partitions is a feature that both service providers and users find most attractive. Secure, flexible and cost effective communications are paramount for corporations in today's competitive environment and as more of them see the benefits associated with these advanced service offerings, so the size and scope of the network is expected to increase."
Newbridge Networks is an international company which designs, manufactures, markets and services multimedia, standards-based networking products for global LAN and WAN applications, all manageable by a single, graphically rich network management system. Facilities are located in Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia.
Newbridge Networks Corporation is a public company whose common shares are quoted for trading on the NASDAQ National Market System in the United States and listed for trading on The Toronto Stock Exchange in Canada.
