 NEW YORK STATE LOTTERY LAUNCHES 'TAKE FIVE' GAME;
 CELEBRATES 25TH ANNIVERSARY WITH BETTER ODDS, MORE CHANCES TO WIN
 NEW YORK, Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The New York State Lottery, with the help of television personality Regis Philbin, today kicked off a year-long celebration of its 25th anniversary by launching Take Five, an exciting new game that will produce thousands of winners each week.
 Announced at the news conference here, Take Five is a 5 of 39 parimutuel game that will be drawn on Fridays. With overall odds of 1 in 8.77 -- dramatically better odds than any parimutuel game offered in New York state -- Take Five is expected to produce more than 15,000 cash winners each week.
 Take Five tickets are now available at the more than 7,100 on-line lottery sales agents across the state.
 "What better way for the lottery to celebrate 25 years of fun and winning than to give New Yorkers even more chances to win," said Philbin. "Take Five is a big idea that's sure to be a hit with New Yorkers from Broadway to Buffalo."
 Joining Philbin to launch the silver anniversary celebration were Lotto millionaires, lottery agents from across the state, and 25 New Yorkers who won the chance to participate in a $2,500 drawing at the event.
 Lottery Director Peter D. Lynch said the lottery chose the name Take Five for its new game and to hold drawings on Fridays because it will give "lottery players the break they need to get their weekend off to a winning start."
 Take Five, he said, was born from market research that shows lottery players want to win more often. "We are giving lottery players exactly what they want -- more chances to win," said Lynch. "As our advertising slogan says, 'You've gotta love the odds.'"
 Match 5 of 39 to Win
 According to expected sales and the odds of winning, the expected payouts for each Take Five prize level are:
 -- matching all five numbers -- $50,000 to each of four winners
 -- matching four numbers -- $450 to each of 590 winners
 -- matching three numbers -- $25 to each of 19,000 winners
 In addition, a bonus free play ticket is awarded for matching just two numbers. Bonus free play tickets must be claimed at sales agent locations within 45 days of the drawing.
 Players of all lottery games can call a new winning number hotline to find out all of the New York Lottery's winning numbers. The number is 976-CASH in the 212, 718 and 516 area codes. From these area codes, calls will cost approximately 36 cents and for everywhere else the call will be charged as a long-distance call (about 40 cents or less).
 The first drawing for Take Five, which replaces the lottery's Cash 40 game, is set for this Friday, Jan. 17. Players have until 10 p.m. on the night of the drawings to purchase tickets -- two hours later than most other lottery games.
 To help spur interest in the Take Five game, the lottery plans to run a Jan. 15 newspaper advertisement across the state that includes a buy-one-get-one-free coupon for Take Five tickets, Lynch said. The ads, developed by DDB Needham Worldwide, include the headline, "Careful. There's a good chance you'll win."
 The promotional campaign also will include radio spots in select markets offering listeners an opportunity to call in for free Take Five Tickets and other prizes.
