NEW YORK BANCORP INC. LISTS ON THE AMERICAN STOCK EXCHANGE COMPANY PREVIOUSLY TRADED ON NASDAQ

 NEW YORK, Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- New York Bancorp Inc. today commenced trading on the American Stock Exchange. The Company's common stock, trading under the ticker symbol "NYB", opened at 11:30 a.m. at 28-1/2 on 100 shares. New York Bancorp previously traded over-the- counter on Nasdaq's National Market System.
 New York Bancorp Inc. is a holding company headquartered in Douglaston, Queens, N.Y. The Company's sole subsidiary, Home Federal Savings Bank, conducts retail banking and lending activities through 21 offices located in Queens, Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester counties of the state of New York. In 1992, Home Federal Savings Bank was ranked number one by the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs in its annual study of 50 commercial and savings banks operating in New York City. Additionally, the Company received a "Superior" rating by IDC Financial Publishing Inc., which compiles financial data on all banks, bank holding companies, thrifts and credit unions reporting to the federal government.
 As of Dec. 31, 1992, New York Bancorp Inc. had assets of $1.5 billion and 4,413,591 shares outstanding.
