NEW YEARS RESOLUTION COMES TRUE FOR SOUTH CENTRAL L.A. YOUTH

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The Hyundai Academy of Automotive Technology announces that Elias Salas, 19, the top performer in his class, just returned from his first overseas trip to where else but -- South Korea.
Salas was one of 14 students among the first graduating class of the Hyundai Academy of Automotive Technology which consisted of a six-month intensive training and certification program for automotive technicians. Students received instruction in eight automotive classes and on life skills class. Classes were held at Los Angeles Harbor College and at Hyundai Motor America in Fountain Valley. Students received college credit as well as air conditioning and state smog certification credit. The students were compensated for attending classes and received raises upon completion of State Smog Certification.
While in Korea, Salas visited the vast Hyundai complex in Ulsan touring plants and shipbuilding factories. They were also introduced at Hyundai Headquarters in Seoul. He was introduced to traditional Korean food and culture with a visit to the Korean Folk Village. Salas enjoyed shopping in Itaewon, the shopping district. They received a rare treat on seeing Russian President Boris Yeltsin who was staying in their hotel.
"I feel that for as long as I live I will never forget the experience. Going on the trip made me open my eyes to see that there's more to life than I first thought," said Salas.
Upon his return, Salas had many job offers from local Hyundai dealers. However, he finally accepted a position at Kim-Hankey Hyundai in Los Angeles.
