ST. PAUL, Minn., Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- SnowRunner, Inc., announced today the relocation of its offices from Boulder, Colo., to St. Paul as part of a national marketing effort to promote snow skating in America as the next hottest new winter sport. SnowRunner develops, markets and distributes the world's first patented and performance snow skate which integrates a comfortable, lightweight yet supportive boot and a specially designed replaceable base allowing the skate to glide over the snow. St. Paul Mayor James Schiebel and St. Paul Port Authority's President, Ken Johnson, welcomed SnowRunner to the St. Paul Business community.
"As the breeding ground for in-line skating, ski jumping and water skiing, St. Paul welcomes the establishment of the newest winter sport, snow skating, in our city," said Scheibel.
In addition to the company's two founders, Steve Clarke, vice president sales, and Nigel Alexander, chief financial officer, SnowRunner has expanded its management team to now include experienced sports marketers who were integral in pioneering the sport of in-line skating: John Sundet, president/CEO, former CEO of Rollerblade; Mary Horwath, consultant, former VP marketing of Rollerblade; and Lisa Svac, marketing services manager, former Rollerblade national events manager. All three are from the Twin Cities.
"Minnesotans, known for their love of wintertime activities, will be a natural market for this emerging sport that combines the freedom and movements of in-line and ice skating plus the challenge and diversity of skiing and snowboarding," said Sundet. "Having been through the emergence and growth of Rollerblade, it is exciting to translate this experience into yet another new sport. Our challenge will be to create a new winter sport that expands usage of ski resorts to current enthusiasts as well as introduces non-skiers to a snow activity. For me, this is a twice in a lifetime opportunity."
As part of its natural marketing strategy, demonstration vans carrying SnowRunner snow skates will travel extensively beginning December 1st to ski resorts across the country, providing free snow skate trial and instruction. SnowRunner snow skates will also be prominently featured in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 1994 Winter Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway (February). More than 200 pairs of skates were provided and special choreography developed to tie to the "Joy of Snow" theme planned for the ceremonies.
SnowRunner snow skates are distributed through general and specialty sporting goods stores for approximately $200 retail. Snow skates are available for rental at most major ski resorts with an average daily rental cost of $12.
Snow skating is being enjoyed at more than 160 ski resorts across the country including Aspen, Colo.; Mammoth Mountain, Calif.; Sun Valley, Idaho; and Stowe, Vt.
