NEW VOTE KIT HELPS VOTERS COMPARE THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES,
THEIR VIEWS AND UNDERSTAND THE ELECTION PROCESS
SANTA BARBARA, Calif., Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Many experts believe that voters are more and more confused and misled by campaign rhetoric and biased reporting. One company has come up with an information package that removes the media middleman and delivers the candidates' positions "in their own words" direct to the voters.
Calling it "VoteKit '92," Jerry Wilhelm and Gilbert Chavez of the Sphere of Knowledge Co., have produced a two-hour videotape of the presidential candidates, a bound copy of their position papers and a book that describes the often-confusing election process.
"We wanted to take the emotion and misrepresentation out of it and give people an opportunity to evaluate exactly what the candidates have said about the issues," Chavez says.
The Position Papers book, 250 pages long, allows voters to read the candidates' positions on a wide range of issues from abortion to welfare. It also contains the economic plans of Bush, Clinton and Perot as well as platforms from some of the third parties.
The videotape contains excerpts from recent major speeches and emphasizes their statements on issues rather than playing out sound bites of their name calling.
"It's a remarkable opportunity to compare the candidates consecutively in one viewing, rather than catching them at different times," Wilhelm says.
The election process book provides an easily understood explanation of the presidential election process, describing everything from primaries to the Electoral College. It even contains the complete U.S. Constitution. "This is a very complex process that few people rarn about other presidential candidates running on tickets ranging from the New Alliance and Libertarian parties to the Socialist and Populist parties.
"We feel that the people deserve to hear the points of view of 'all' legitimate presidential candidates, not just those of the major parties," Chavez says.
It also includes some candidates for whom there may be a write-in vote, although they are no longer formally in the race -- Ross Perot, Pat Buchanan and Jerry Brown.
"We believe there is a real market for this information among people truly concerned with the election. Our phones haven't stopped ringing since our first interview on a local morning news program. We have been astounded by the demand for this product," Wilhelm says.
VoteKit '92, available from Sphere of Knowledge at $29.95 by phoning 800-VOTEKIT, also includes an issue location matrix, which makes the candidates' stands on a particular issue discernible at a glance.
"All in all, it will help voters make an informed decision," Chavez says. "We hope that it will also help parents and teachers introduce young people to the election process."
