 NEW VICE PRESIDENT AT MESABA AVIATION/NORTHWEST AIRLINK
 MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- John S. Fredericksen


has been named vice president - general counsel for Mesaba Aviation, Inc., the Minneapolis-based Northwest Airlink carrier announced today. Fredericksen comes to Mesaba from the Regional Airline Association (RAA) in Washington, D.C., where he served as president.
 "John's experience and knowledge in a wide range of airline issues make him uniquely qualified to contribute to Mesaba's rapid growth," said president and CEO, Robert Swenson.
 Fredericksen served five years with the RAA, the national trade association of the short-haul scheduled airlines. Prior to that, he spent six years as a senior trial attorney with the Federal Aviation Administration. He is a former naval aviator and holds a commercial pilot's certificate.
 Fredericksen, 43 years old, holds a bachelor's degree in physics from the University of Washington, and a law degree from the University of Southern California. He and his wife, Becky, and their two children will reside in the Twin Cities.
 Mesaba operates as Northwest Airlink under an airline marketing agreement with Northwest Airlines. The regional carrier provides connecting service to Northwest at Minneapolis/St. Paul International and Detroit Metropolitan airports. The airline currently serves 41 cities in 14 states and one Canadian province. Mesaba is a wholly owned subsidiary of AirTran Corporation (NASDAQ: ATCC).
