NEW VERSION OF SPSS TAILORED SPECIFICALLY FOR MANUFACTURERS.
Many manufacturers use statistical process control (SPC) software, such as SPSS Quality's QI Analyst, to understand process capability and monitor production processes in real time. However, the addition of a complementary analytical tool such as SPSS Manufacturing Version 9.0 will provide advanced analysis to help users dig deeper into manufacturing problems and better understand why a process performs in a given way. SPSS Manufacturing Version 9.0 accepts SPC data from QI Analyst and can provide a more in-depth view of information, enabling users to pinpoint relationships between variables and learn even more about their processes.
"This release is another step in SPSS Quality's plan to deliver data-driven manufacturing solutions. We're doing that by bringing the right set of statistical and graphical analysis procedures to the manufacturing market," said Courtney Hye, Quality Products and Services senior marketing manager. "By customizing the selection of statistics for reporting and analysis of shop floor data, SPSS helps manufacturers gain more insight into their processes, enabling them to identify areas for quality improvement, cost reduction and increased productivity."
To create SPSS Manufacturing Version 9.0 for Windows, SPSS combined features from the various modules of its general-purpose statistical software, resulting in a comprehensive collection of analytical reports, statistics and graphics for manufacturers' analysis. Prior to the development of SPSS Manufacturing Version 9.0, a manufacturer would have had to purchase several different modules - containing some features not appropriate to manufacturing - to collect all the desired functionality included in this package. Now, SPSS has made key procedures and charts available to manufacturers in one package, including descriptive statistics (including sum, means and standard error), correlation, ANOVA, regression, General Linear Models (GLM), control charts, histograms and scatterplots.
Manufacturers can also use the macros shipped with SPSS Manufacturing Version 9.0 for a regular update on the status of a process. By specifying parameters for analysis, they get a visual indication of process performance. For example, a user may highlight the production level of every line with output below 100, and every line with output above 200. With the "traffic light" analysis, it is easy to see the lines with higher output in green, the lines that are performing as expected in yellow, and the lines that are performing poorly in red. Based on the results of this type of analysis, SPSS Manufacturing Version 9.0 can automatically run further analysis for each of the three groups of data.
SPSS Manufacturing 9.0 also features report OLAP (OnLine Analytical Processing), a fast, flexible way to create, distribute and manipulate information for decision making. Because each member of the organization may need to analyze process data from different perspectives, OLAP enables users to drill down into layers of detail and include new variables in reports to easily view relevant information in a customized format. Users can then distribute their reports with the optional SmartViewer Web Server - SPSS' product for Web-based reporting. Through the Web, live multi-dimensional tables and graphs are available to analysts, engineers, managers and others - giving them the power to immediately interact with results.
