NEW UNIVERSAL RATE, CLEAR CHANNEL DSU EXPANDS GDC'S DATACOMM FAMILY

NEW UNIVERSAL RATE, CLEAR CHANNEL DSU EXPANDS GDC'S DATACOMM FAMILY
MIDDLEBURY, Conn., Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- General DataComm, Inc. (GDC) today introduced the DataComm 500F/AXR, the latest addition to its pioneering line of versatile data sets that, regardless of speed or type, plug into a DataComm shelf or mount in a compact DataComm standalone enclosure. The DataComm 500F/AXR is a universal rate clear channel data service unit (DSU) for central site and remote locations in digital service networks. It supports all standard subrates and both the 56 Kbps and 64 Kbps (clear channel) high speed rates.
Line service rate upgrades are easy with the DataComm 500F/AXR. Whether between subrates or from subrate to high speed (56/54 Kbps), the unit automatically and transparently adjusts its operating rate to match that of the incoming signal.
A variety of features helps the user quickly isolate and resolve system faults. For example. the DataComm 500F/AXR has the unique ability to determine whether the transmit and receive pairs have been accidentally transposed. A common installation mistake, this error can cost hours of wasted troubleshooting. The front panel Electronic Display Window gives instantaneous response to an array of descriptive information. This includes the current operating data rate, any active alarms, and the results of user-initiated diagnostic testing. V.54- compliant diagnostic testing capabilities include Line Loopback, Remote Digital Loopback (RDL) and Self-Test.
The Extended Dynamic Range feature assures trouble-free operation even over marginal lines, such as those found in unusually long subscriber loops. Another performance enhancement is the DataComm 500F/AXR's anti-lockup feature that protects against remote DSU or OCU lockup of 64 Kbps circuits caused by data signals that resemble in-band loopback command codes.
Available in October, the DataComm 500F/AXR is priced from $950.
General DataComm's leadership in digital data transmission is reaffirmed by this latest product introduction. GDC, with more than 250,000 shipped digital terminations, is a leading provider of multimedia networks and telecommunications equipment worldwide.
