NEW TOUCH-SCREEN SERVICE CENTERS INTRODUCED AT EIGHT TARGET STORES A BREAKTHROUGH FOR LAST-MINUTE GIFT-BUYERS

MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Eight Minnesota Target stores are introducing a new computerized touch-screen service center that enables customers to buy gift certificates from more than 50 other retail stores, restaurants and services, in addition to Target.
Called Target Service Express, the self-service kiosks have been installed in time for the holiday shopping season at the Bloomington and Mankato Target stores and all Target Greatland stores in the Twin Cities.
The units are operated by The Gift Certificate Center, Inc., Minneapolis, and serviced by IBM.
Target Service Express accepts major credit cards. By simply touching the computer screen, customers can select the retailer, restaurant or entertainment offering of their choice, designate the amount of the gift ($10 to $100), and create a personalized gift certificate and greeting card -- all in about two minutes. There is no service charge for Target certificates, a $1.50 charge for others.
Among the choices offered: Dayton's, Hudson's and Marshall Field's department stores, Bachman's Byerly's, Cub Foods, the Children's Theatre Company, General Cinema Theatres, the Guthrie Theater, Minnesota Orchestra, the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, United Airlines, Bakers Square, Figlio, Kincaid's, Pronto Ristorante and Caffe and, of course, Target.
"Target Service Express literally puts an entire shopping mall at your fingertips," said Bill Veeneman, chief executive officer of The Gift Certificate Center. "It adds another dimension to Target's well- regarded customer-service offering."
The units will also dispense special Target coupons and product information as an added customer service.
The Gift Certificate Center, Inc., began installing touch-screen kiosks under its own name in a variety of Twin Cities locations, including all Byerly's locations, a little more than a year ago. The units enable customers to print gift certificates that are good at stores, restaurants and entertainment venues throughout the United States. The company started with eight locations and has expanded to 32, including the Target kiosks.
The Gift Certificate Center guarantees customer satisfaction for both the gift giver and the recipient. If not completely satisfied, buyers may return the certificate for full credit card refunds.
Customers may also use The Gift Certificate Center's 1-800-765-GIFT number for service by phone.
