NEW TOP ARMY BRASS -Gen. Hayri Kivrikoglu named new Land Forces Commander.

ANKARA, Aug 4, 2011 (TUR) -- General Hayri Kivrikoglu has been appointed as the new Land Forces Commander.

Gen. Kivrikoglu was born in Konya in 1948. He graduated from the military academy in 1969 and from Army War College in 1979. After several years of duty in military units across Turkey and in NATO, Kivrioglu was promoted to general in 1996.

He served as a division commander and head of Turkey's National Military Representative Delegation in Mons, Belgium. He also served as the Commander of Turkish Peace Forces in Cyprus.

He was promoted to full general on August 30, 2008 and appointed as the Aegean Army Commander.

Hayri Kivrikoglu is married with two children. He speaks English.
