NEW STANDBY POWER SYSTEM FROM BEST STARTS AT $169
NECEDAH, Wis., Jan. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- A new generation of Standby

Power Systems (SPS) featuring enhanced power protection capabilities has been introduced by Best Power Technology, Inc. List prices for Patriot(TM) SPS start at just $169.
Patriot will initially be available in 250VA and 450VA models. Despite its small size and low cost, Patriot offers many power protection features normally found on in more expensive units:
-- FULL-TIME LIGHTNING AND SURGE PROTECTION BACKED BY UL 1449: Patriot is tested and rated by UL as a full-time surge suppressor. It constantly protects sensitive electronic equipment from spikes and surges. Patriot is the only standby in its class to be UL 1449 listed -- a rating normally reserved for quality surge suppressors. It also passes ANSI/IEEE C62.41 with both Category A and the higher Category B impulses.
-- HIGH VOLTAGE PROTECTION: Patriot is the only product in its class to protect against high voltage conditions by switching the load from line to inverter. Landmark power studies from IBM, AT&T ad National Power Laboratory (NPL) show that high voltage conditions constantly threaten the safe operation of computers, LANs and other electronic equipment.
-- FULL-TIME EMI/RFI PROTECTION: Patriot filters noise from incoming power, even when it is not operating on inverter. Its advanced, multi-stage filter provides 33 dB of common-mode and 47 dB normal-mode noise isolation.
-- CheckUPS(TM) SOFTWARE AND AUTOMATIC SHUTDOWN KITS: The 450VA Patriot features an interface port that lets it triggers a safe, orderly shutdown on many popular computer systems. Optional CheckUPS(TM) software and shutdown kits are available for DOS, OS/2, AS/400, RS/6000 AIX, Novell NetWare, LAN Manager, UNIX/XENIX, Lantastic, Banyan VINES, Prime, and more.
-- STATUS INDICATOR AND ALARMS: Patriot features two audible alarms and a triple-mode status indicator light to warn users of overloads or low battery runtime.
The Patriot 250VA model lists at $169. It is ideal for supporting small, single-user PCs, from a Macintosh SE/30 up to an IBM PS/2 Model 55 with VGA monitor. It can support an IBM PS/2 Model 30 with VGA monitor for 22 minutes.
The 450VA model lists at $279. It can support a PS/2 Model 55 with VGA monitor for 18 minutes, or a Sun 3/60 system for 12 minutes.
Both Patriot models are listed under the new UL 1778 standard for UPS, and are CSA certified. They comply with FCC class A and B.
