NEW SOFTWARE FORECASTS MARKETERS' RETURN ON INVESTMENT TO SUPPORT BUDGETS

SAN FERNANDO, Calif., Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- New computer software forecasts return on investment for sales and marketing executives long starved for valid ways to support budget proposals.
The innovative, windows-based program, Sales Projector, from Inquiry Handling Service ($55, call 800-847-5323), bases projections on sales leads produced by advertising, direct mail, trade shows, public relations programs or other marketing promotions, according to Jim Obermayer, IHS sales/marketing vice president.
"Using this program, marketers can quickly see how to place resources where they'll produce the best results," Obermayer says. "Clearly, this can justify proposed projects. Very often, it translates into a budget increase."
Chris Andrews, marketing services manager at Robot Research, Inc., San Diego, has used the program's formula to demonstrate, in one case, a whopping 800 percent return on investment. His marketing budgets have been increased twice in the last year and a half.
"The real value is that I can take quality data and do full-blown ROI models," says Andrews. "That means I can be specific in telling top management how much they'll get back if they increase the budget for any part of my media program."
"Sales Projector is valuable to both sides of the ad business, advertiser and publisher," says Obermayer, "because it enables side-by- side comparisons to predict sales results and cost effectiveness."
Media sales reps can project the results of a single advertising insert. Ad agencies can be more precise about the amount of business a campaign is likely to produce. And they can predict the cost per inquiry, both raw and closed.
