Iraqi Airways operated scheduled flights to Syria on 12 January, for the first time in over 20 years. Ties between the two countries were severed in 1980 due to a war between Iran and Iraq. The carrier is also operating scheduled flights to Egypt and Jordan, despite United Nations sanctions, Reuters reported.

ALM, a Dutch Caribbean airline, and Sobel Air, a Belgian carrier, have signed a letter of intent to operate joint flights between the Netherlands and the island of Curacao. Starting 23 March Sobel Air will fly from Curacao to Amsterdam three times a week.

Cathay Pacific Airways, a Hong Kong-based carrier, is to launch a new nonstop passenger service between Hong Kong and Delhi, India on 26 March. The announcement follows the conclusion of an air services agreement between Hong Kong and India on 19 January, according to Xinhua News Agency. Cathay Pacific also operates to Mumbai in India.

JetBlue Airways, a New York-based carrier, will start flights between JFK International Airport in New York and the Hancock International Airport in Syracuse on 7 May. Fares on the route will range from USD49 through USD105 each-way, not including taxes and other charges. To celebrate the launch, JetBlue has introduced a fare sale for Buffalo and Rochester travellers, with a three-day advance purchase fare of USD39 each-way available for travel between 7 May and 7 June 2001. Tickets must be purchased by 15 February and other restrictions and charges may apply.

Delta Express, the low-fare subsidiary of Delta Air Lines, will launch a new nonstop 737-200 jet aircraft service to Newark on 15 February and is offering a fare sale to celebrate the launch. The carrier is offering round-trip flights from USD100 for travel to Newark Thursday through Saturday (15-17 February) and return to Fort Myers on Tuesday or Wednesday (20-21 February). Certain charges and restrictions may apply.
