Alaska Airlines has launched nonstop services to Tucson, Arizona and is offering tickets from USD79 each way between Tucson and Seattle; Portland, Oregon; Spokane, Washington and San Jose, California. Tickets must be purchased by 19 September with travel completed by 15 December. Other restrictions may apply.

America West Airlines has started a thrice-daily round-trip service between Phoenix and Santa Fe using 19-seat Beechcraft 1900D aircraft.

British Midland Airways has indicated that it will recommence transatlantic flights for the first time in 18 years in 2001, offering scheduled flights from Manchester, UK to Washington DC.

Ghana Airways has received approval from the US government to operate a direct air service between Banjul, Gambia and John F Kennedy International Airport in New York, USA. No start date was given.
