 NEW PHILADELPHIA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT ATMs SPEAK FIVE LANGUAGES;
 Provident National Bank Developed, Installed Machines
 PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Travelers entering or leaving Philadelphia International Airport now have the option of withdrawing cash from automated teller machines (ATMs) that "speak" five languages: English, French, Spanish, German and Japanese.
 Although Provident National Bank installed the machines in July, the language options became operational in mid-September. There is one ATM machine located in each terminal of the airport.
 The screen opens with a "Welcome to MAC" message in English. At eight-second intervals, each of the five languages appears on the screen. Customers insert their ATM or debit card into the machine and select a language based on a series of prompts. Only cash withdrawals and transfers of American dollars are possible.
 Provident worked closely with airport personnel to determine which languages would be most needed. According to Terry Marran, an assistant vice president at Provident and coordinator of the project, that decision was partially based on which international airlines regularly flew into Philadelphia. "Of course, Spanish was a given," Marran said. "We also found out that Philadelphia gets a lot of business travelers from France, Germany and Japan, so they seemed like natural choices."
 Marran said foreign travelers do not have to have local bank accounts to withdraw funds. "Many companies, such as American Express and Visa, issue cards that are usable in ATMs around the world," she said.
 Special computer chips needed to be installed to display certain foreign language characters. Software company K&N Systems Inc. provided the chips and Japanese translations; Provident personnel provided the translations for commands in Spanish, French and German.
 Provident has about 100 off-site ATMs in public places throughout the Delaware Valley.
