NEW NAME AND INNOVATIVE SERVICES HALLMARKS OF
 METROPHONE'S NEW ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN
WAYNE, Pa., Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 8 million Americans now own cellular phones, and it is estimated by industry sources that 7,300 new subscribers are signed up every day.
It is no surprise, then, that cellular companies across the United States want to spread the word about how cellular communications can make life safer, less stressful and more productive.
That's why Metrophone, the Delaware Valley cellular market leader, will begin an aggressive, new advertising campaign on Sunday, introducing enhanced services, breakthrough technology, and a new corporate identity.
The campaign consists of new print, radio and billboard ads featuring the tag line "Experience the Difference the Market Leader Makes," and was created by the Philadelphia advertising agency, Gyro, Inc.
Designed to increase the public's awareness of the new name, Comcast Metrophone, the ads tout the advantages of the March 1992 merger between Metrophone and Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: CMCSA, CMCSK), one of America's leading diversified communications companies.
According to Donald Harris, president of Comcast Cellular Communications, Inc., the advertising reflects the company's mission of providing superior cellular service, emphasizing its exclusive features like localized traffic updates as well as new enhancements like 24 hour live Customer Service.
"Developing breakthrough technology and services that differentiate us from the competition has made us the cellular market leader, and will continue to set us apart in the future. Our relationship with Comcast will help us usher in even more of the innovative services that our customers tell us they need and want," Harris said.
The "24 Hour Live Customer Service" feature uses company representatives working round-the-clock, 7 days a week to handle customer questions, said Harris. In addition, he said, Comcast Metrophone is the only cellular service with instant Shadow Traffic reports and free long distance calling on weekends.
"We've always been very proud of our accomplishments, but now as part of a truly global telecommunications team, we're stronger and better than ever," said Harris. As an example, he cited a new service Comcast Metrophone will offer shortly, which will automatically deliver customers' cellular calls to them in selected major markets like New York City without the use of special access codes. The service, called North America Cellular Network, is also featured in the advertisements.
In September, Metrophone and Comcast participated in another technological advance, by placing a series of calls without the use of traditional telephone company facilities.
Comcast Corporation is principally engaged in the development and operation of cable television and cellular communications systems. The company's consolidated and affiliated cable operations served more than 2.8 million subscribers as of June 30, 1992. This included more than 830,000 subscribers representing 50 percent of the total subscribers served by Storer Communications, Inc.
With the completion of the acquisition of Metrophone, the company now provides cellular telephone services in the Northeast United States to markets encompassing a population in excess of 7.3 million. In addition, Comcast is engaged in the sale and installation of sound communications systems, owning the largest independent network of background music systems, operating under the Muzak name.
The Class A and Class A Special Common Stock are traded in the over- the-counter market and are reported in the National Market List under the NASDAQ symbols CMCSA and CMCSK, respectively.
