NEW MOBIL PLANTS IN MEXICO GAIN MARKETS QUICKLY

FAIRFAX, Va., July 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Mobil Corporation (NYSE: MOB) said today that two new plants recently added to Mobil Oil de Mexico's facilities in Vallejo, an industrial suburb of Mexico City, had already brought the company dramatic market gains in Mexico's construction-board industry.
"With the new high-quality wax emulsions Mobil can now make at Vallejo, we've been able in just a few months to land 50 percent of Mexico's construction-board wax emulsions market," said Hal Cramer, president of Mobil South, Inc., the unit that coordinates marketing and refining operations among Mobil affiliates in Latin America, most of Asia, the South Pacific, and Africa.
Cramer said the two new plants, one for the emulsions and one for premium lubricants such as greases, had expanded existing facilities during a two-year project that cost about $3.3 million (US). Plant capacity was increased by 30,000 barrels per year on April 1st, when the new facilities went on-stream.
Mobil Oil de Mexico expects to broaden its market share with the premium greases now being produced at Vallejo. In addition to its work with Mexico's construction-board industry, the company plans a substantial marketing effort aimed at the gypsum, latex, concrete and ceramic industries featuring its enhanced line of products.
Fuels marketing in Mexico is done by the state oil company, but Mobil is a leader in the lubricants market and has been expanding its lube centers and industrial sales.
