NEW MINNEAPOLIS HILTON AND TOWERS OPENS TODAY FOR SNEAK MEDIA PREVIEWS

NEW MINNEAPOLIS HILTON AND TOWERS OPENS TODAY FOR SNEAK MEDIA PREVIEWS
WHO: The new Minneapolis Hilton and Towers, 1001 Marquette Ave. S., downtown Minneapolis, and the hotel's General Manager Andre Schaefer.
WHAT: Beginning this morning (Wednesday, Oct. 28) at 10:30 a.m., the Hilton and Towers will be open to the news media only for a sneak preview. The hotel, which was originally scheduled to open in February 1993, will open this Sunday, Nov. 1. Schaefer is available to tour the hotel with you. The three new skyways that connect the Hilton and Towers -- and the rest of downtown Minneapolis -- to the Minneapolis Convention Center, Orchestra Hall, Leamington Municipal Transit Hub and the Minneapolis Centre will open Monday, Nov. 2.
WHY: The opening of the Hilton and Towers and the skyways completes another major downtown development phase. The hotel is the central connecting point for 11 new city blocks ... and to the rest of downtown. The Hilton and Towers is the state's largest hotel with 816 guest rooms. The hotel houses two restaurants, a complete health club and spa, and 40,000 square feet of meeting space, including the largest hotel ballroom in the state.
WHEN: Beginning at 10:30 a.m. today and continuing through Friday, Oct. 30. Tours will be given on a first come, first serve basis. Interviews may be scheduled in advance (see contacts below).
WHERE: All visitors are required to check in at the hotel security office. Entry may be made at the loading dock area on the 10th Street or Second Ave. sides of the hotel. Access is not available through the lobby. (Please understand that, for obvious security and liability reasons, no one will be allowed into the hotel without prior security clearance.)
VISUALS: The hotel and skyways are not finished yet ... Get a first-hand look at what it takes to assemble the state's largest -- and grandest -- hotel. Schaefer, a life-long veteran of the hotel business, will guide you through the property.
The Second Ave. skyway (between 10th and 11th streets) is filled to the top with a sea of thousands and thousands of multicolored balloons. Twin Citians are sending in their guess on the number of balloons. The prize is getaway weekend at the Hilton and Towers.
CONTACT: To schedule a sneak preview tour or for further information, contact Lisa Kolrud at 612-371-5505, or Dory Kaye at 612-371-7508.
