BIRMINGHAM weight loss pioneers Healthier Weight are shaping up for a profitable future - following a key strategy review.

The Edgbaston business, hailed as the UK's leading obesity surgery provider, says the move to modify its business model has proved highly successful, with financial growth in all sectors of the business.

Now, to build on the success of the business, marketing expert Martyn Berrett has been appointed managing director of the Group.

Mr Berrett joins Healthier Weight following a career with a number of operations, including Readers Digest, British Airways Air Miles and Commercial Union.

He will be responsible for overall direction of the business, together with its subsidiary - Weight to Go - which provides clinically-proven diet products and ready-meals direct to consumers' doors.

Mr Berrett joins the Board of Healthier Weight, comprising Dr David Ashton, medical director, and his wife Chrissie Twigg, who moves to the role of director of communications. "This allows us to concentrate on what has been the key driver of our success, a relentless focus on patient well-being and outcomes," said Chrissie Twigg. Despite four years of sustained growth, the internal management team took a strategic decision 12 months ago to streamline the business.

"It was felt within the company generally that people were dealing with three businesses rolled into one, which led to an intense work schedule," she said. "We never stopped working, even on Sundays." Today the company is 20 per cent ahead compared with the previous financial year.

"It's been a tremendous year for business development throughout the company. The business feels strong, stable and best of all work is a manageable six days a week.

"It is to Martyn's credit that he has fitted in so well because it can't be easy to join an established husband and wife team, let alone deliver such remarkable results."

Dr Ashton said: "Despite the trauma that the rest of the UK economy has been through this past two years, Healthier Weight has gone from strength to strength and the decision to hone and fine-tune our business operations has paid dividends.

"Not only are we now recognised for our best practice by the NHS but we are transforming people's lives all over the UK.

"There is nothing more fulfilling than restoring people's physical health along with a renewed sense of confidence and self-esteem."
