NEW LAW AND STRATEGY ON CONSUMER PROTECTION DRAFTED.
According to Nicola Bertolini of the EU Delegation, a lot needs to be done in the years ahead to meet the European directives about consumer protection and Macedonian institutions do not have what it takes to complete this mission fast. He said this at the closing conference of the IPA project "Technical Assistance for Development of Consumer Protection Policy".
However, he believes that Macedonia is on the right track because it has a strategy on consumer protection that leads to the implementation of these directives.
"It's good that through this project now you have a strategy but it's going to take you a long time to implement the directives. It's important that the basis for the focus and the strategic approach is laid in the first five years. My advice to you is to ensure that citizens participate and are involved and to set up an information channel for all the steps being taken for better protection of their health and rights. But you are not going to achieve anything unless there is control and inspection and unless the capacities of control institutions get enhanced," Bertolini said.
The drafts of the new law on consumer protection and the strategy on consumer protection 2019-2023 that seek to improve the quality of the people's lives and to make sure they enjoy high consumer protection standards, aligned with the European Union policies, were presented within the closing conference of the IPA project "Technical Assistance for Development of Consumer Protection Policy".
