 FOR UP TO 16 PORTS
 DALLAS, April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Interphase Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: INPH) today added a new FDDI (100 Megabit per second Fiber Distributed Data Interface) network concentrator to its line of FDDI solutions, which includes the most widely installed controllers for VMEbus and Multibus. The fiberHUB(TM) 1600 is the first of a new series of Interphase products that will complete the broadest range of FDDI solutions from a single vendor.
 The new fiberHUB 1600 is a standalone device that provides high speed network connectivity for eight to 16 stations, in convenient two- port increments. The modular fiberHUB can be configured in a variety of ways, providing easy-to-implement and easy-to-manage FDDI network expansion. Any mix of fiber and copper network media is supported, and modules are "hot swappable" for easy maintenance.
 "FDDI installations are expanding rapidly, as more users demand powerful networks for data intensive applications such as graphics, image processing and simulation modeling," said Vick Cox, Interphase FDDI marketing manager. "For network administrators, concentrators offer improved network management, wiring flexibility and improved network reliability." The fiberHUB's highly modular design allows administrators to easily customize network configurations to suit topology, application or organization specific needs. CPU, MAC, PHY and power supply modules can be implemented in different combinations. For example, a PHY module can be configured to provide a dual attachment to an FDDI backbone, or as a single attachment to another concentrator. The same module can be used instead to connect two single attached stations to the ring through the concentrator. For maximum fault tolerance, the fiberHUB can be configured with two MAC modules and power supply modules, and may be dual homed to other concentrators.
 Individual MAC and PHY modules can be removed and inserted while the fiberHUB is powered up, for easy service and expansion. The uninvolved modules continue to operate.
 The new concentrator also accommodates a range of wiring requirements with support for multiple combinations of media, including standard FDDI optical fiber and low cost twisted pair wires. It will support long distance single mode fiber and lower cost optical fiber as these options become available in the marketplace.
 "No other concentrator features the level of flexibility available with the fiberHUB," said Cox. "Now, network administrators can design the specific FDDI hub they need to support their choice of media, topology and number of users."
 In addition, Interphase goes beyond simply offering customers the right products for building FDDI networks, Cox said. "We also provide the expertise we've gained designing more high performance open systems FDDI solutions than any other vendor."
 The fiberHUB is designed to the ANSI X3T9 FDDI standard for full interoperability with other standards compliant products. It also features integrated SMT 6.2 for complete implementation of station management functionality, and an SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) response agent for operation with today's network management systems.
 The fiberHUB is available in July. Pricing begins at $13,995 for an eight port configuration.
