NEW HENKEL GLUCOPON(TM) SURFACTANTS FOR DETERGENTS ARE INTRODUCED
GULPH MILLS, Pa., Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Henkel Corporation today presented GLUCOPON(TM) Surfactants, which allow the manufacturers of household, institutional and industrial cleaners to formulate their products with improved performance and cost-effectiveness.
The GLUCOPON Surfactant Series is a new category of surfactants that enhances the performance of a wide range of cleaning products, including hand dish-washing liquids, fine fabric detergents, hard-surface cleaners, laundry powders and liquids. The series includes not only surfactants but also surfactant blends and concentrates tailored to the needs of the detergent industry.
GLUCOPON Surfactants are based on Henkel alkyl polyglycosides, which use regrowable raw materials -- glucose derived from corn and fatty alcohols from coconut and palm kernel oils. They are readily biodegradable and exceptionally mild to skin and eyes.
"We've brought together our technical and marketing expertise to design an exciting new range of products specifically for the detergent industry," said Paul Allen, vice president of Henkel Corp.'s Detergent Surfactants Business. "And we will expand that range in the future."
"GLUCOPON Surfactants have tremendous benefits for manufacturers of cleaning products," said Allen. "They open up new opportunities in formulating products, because they have a combination of properties not available with traditional surfactants."
The performance properties of GLUCOPON Surfactants include:
-- They have excellent wetting, cleaning, detergency, and foaming properties. They also promote rapid-rinsing and non-streaking in wipe- off applications.
-- They allow manufacturers to formulate products with improved performance and cost-effectiveness. For example, they offer the formulation ease of nonionics, while delivering the foam characteristics of anionics.
-- They improve the solubility and compatibility of other actives and detergent components, have outstanding hydrotropic and dispersant properties and superior tolerance to electrolytes, hard-water and high- alkaline conditions.
-- They often provide synergistic properties with other active ingredients. With this synergy, formulators can increase performance or reduce active levels.
"GLUCOPON Surfactants are compatible with all other types of surfactants, and in many cases we are able to demonstrate clear synergistic interactions with surfactant combinations," said Allen. "It is these properties that will enable our customers to increase performance or reduce active levels, and ultimately benefit the consumer."
"And, with our new Applications Laboratory in Ambler, Pa., we have the capability to work with our customers to help them apply GLUCOPON in their products," Allen said.
GLUCOPON Surfactants are manufactured at the company's new production facility, in Cincinnati, which started up in March 1992 with 25,000 metric tons per year in capacity. The facility is the first large-capacity alkyl polyglycoside production plant in the world.
Reflecting confidence in its proprietary alkyl polyglycoside technology and the market's need for alkyl polyglycoside-based surfactants, the Henkel Group has decided that it will build another production unit at Duesseldorf, Germany.
Henkel Corporation, the Specialist in Applied Chemistry, provides the right chemicals and services to manufacturers in almost every industrial sector, so their products can serve consumers better.
