NEW GOODYEAR TRUCK TIRES ARE TIREMAKER'S 'MOST SUCCESSFUL'

AKRON, Ohio, Sept. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- With 300,000 units sold in eight months since its January debut, the new Unisteel 300 Series commercial truck tire continues to live up to its early reputation as the Goodyear's "most successful line of commercial service tires ever," the company said.
"The industry excitement and momentum surrounding the new product were obvious in May when we tracked sales of 70,000 units just four months after we introduced the 300 Series line," said Bryan L. Kinnamon, general manager for commercial tires at Goodyear.
The Unisteel 300 Series was developed as the industry's first system approach to promoting even tire wear, extended tire life and improved fuel economy in line-haul service.
"The continuing sales records clearly show the industry's acceptance of the new tire line's concept for improvements in tire wear and fuel efficiency," Kinnamon said.
"Trucking companies that have been using the 300 Series continue to report that the tires are wearing very evenly," he said. "That improved wear, and its resultant improvements in fuel economy and original tire life are exactly the performance characteristics we were seeking."
The 300 Series drive and trail tires -- the G362, G328 and G314 -- have been purchased by fleets, owner-operators and major original equipment manufacturers such as Mack and Navistar.
Kinnamon added that development continues on the 300 Series steer tire, with Goodyear engineers demanding extreme levels of tire performance from a number of design candidates that are being evaluated under code names at several major fleets.
"The 300 Series with its axle-specific compounds and more than 50 casing improvements is a revolutionary concept in commercial tire design," Kinnamon said, "and the industry is responding very positively to the first new and technologically advanced truck tire product to be introduced to the market in more than a decade. That's why the 300 series is the most successful line of commercial service tires ever introduced by Goodyear."
