NEW GM APPOINTED FOR PIONEER HOTEL IN LAUGHLIN

LAS VEGAS, Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Chairman and CEO of Sahara Resorts, Paul Lowden, has appointed Don Rhodes as the new general manager of the Pioneer Hotel & Gambling Hall in Laughlin, Nev. Rhodes takes over from Chris Lowden, who will be overseeing the Sahara Development Group and other aspects of the company's operations.
Rhodes was previously director of the Nevada Legislative Counsel Bureau (LCB).
In accepting the position, Rhodes said, "I look forward to this new challenge and the opportunity to expand the Pioneer's unique `old west' theme, attractive prices and excellent location. The Pioneer, located on the Colorado River, is a great destination resort, and we plan to get the word out."
Paul Lowden commented, "Don was instrumental in much of the modernization of the LCB, and we can certainly use his managerial skills, single-mindedness of purpose and political savvy. He has the knowledge of Nevada, diverse high level management experience and energy we are looking for to lead the growth and expansion plans we have for the Pioneer."
As director of the LCB, Rhodes served as its chief executive officer directing and supervising all administrative and technical operations of the bureau's five operating divisions that provide legal, fiscal analysis, research, audit and administrative services to the Nevada Legislature.
While at the LCB, Rhodes was elected by the National Conference of State Legislatures to serve on its executive committee for five years. He served on a similar body of the Council of State Governments, and was responsible for hosting the annual meetings of both national organizations in Nevada. He has been a speaker, faculty member, moderator and consultant at several national meetings dealing with legislative issues.
In addition to his work at the LCB, Rhodes also has worked as a committee consultant and analyst in the California Legislature. He also held several senior level positions in private industry in the San Francisco Bay area.
Sahara Resorts is comprised of the Sahara, Hacienda and Santa Fe Hotel/Casinos in Las Vegas and the Pioneer Hotel & Gambling Hall in Laughlin.
