NEW FRA ADMINISTRATOR TO KEYNOTE RAILWAY COMMUNICATORS CONFERENCE

WASHINGTON, Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Jolene Molitoris, recently confirmed Federal Railroad Administrator (FRA), will be the keynote speaker at the 73rd conference of the Association of Railway Communicators (ARC) in Hyannis, Mass., on Friday, Sept. 24. The topic of her speech will be "Getting the Rail Message Out."
Molitoris brings a wealth of rail and private industry, as well as government, experience to her new post. Prior to her recent confirmation, she was a vice-president of the High Speed Rail/Maglev Association, based in Pittsburgh. In a previous position as deputy director of the Ohio Department of Transportation, she created a pro- active, nationally recognized rail program. Prior to this, she worked in executive capacities for the Ohio Rail Transportation Authority. She has served for two terms as the Region I chair of the National Conference of State Rail Officials. Of historic note, Molitoris is the first woman to head the FRA.
President Clinton, when nominating Molitoris, said this: "One of the most important things we can do to improve our overall transportation system and to create high wage manufacturing jobs is to improve and expand our nation's rail system. Jolene Molitoris is a seasoned executive with direct experience in doing the kinds of things we need to be doing."
Rounding out the program are speakers with various perspectives on railroad industry trends: Woody Richardson, vice president of TruckRail for Schneider National, Inc.; Norman Hill, president, the A. Philip Randolph Institute; Daniel Machalaba, staff reporter on transportation for The Wall Street Journal; Ed Robertson, manager of Management and Quality Communications, Federal Express; Leila Osina, executive director, Operation Lifesaver, Inc.; Dr. Ilene Gochman, consultant and director, Employee Research Practice, Towers Perrin; Jay Coleman, editor, Hewlett-Packard; and Craig Rockey, assistant vice president, Economics and Finance, Association of American Railroads.
"We are extremely pleased to have Ms. Molitoris as our Keynote speaker," stated Stephen W. FitzGerald, ARC president. "She brings a lot of fresh ideas and expertise to the FRA. Rail industry communicators look forward to helping her share her rail message and her vision. Her contributions, combined with the many skills and invaluable knowledge of the other speakers, will ensure an excellent industry event."
This year's conference, "Communicating Change in a Changing Industry," will highlight the recent and coming changes within the rail industry. It will be held at the Tara Hyannis Resort, Hyannis, Mass., Sept. 22-25, 1993. For more information, contact Paula Newbaker at the Association of American Railroads, 202-639-2562, or Stephen W.
