NEW DOLLS ADDED TO 'BEVERLY HILLS, 90210' LINE BY POPULAR DEMAND
LOS ANGELES, July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- "We want Andrea! We want Steve! We want David!" Teens around the country expressed this sentiment when Mattel Toys recently introduced a line of fashion dolls based on only five of the eight primary characters from the phenomenal hit Fox Television Network program, "Beverly Hills, 90210."
The initial line, introduced this year at New York Toy Fair, included dolls based on characters Brandon and Brenda Walsh, Dylan McKay, Kelly Taylor and Donna Martin. Due to popular demand, Mattel will add dolls based on the likenesses of Andrea Zuckerman played by Gabrielle Carteris, Steve Sanders played by Ian Ziering, and David Silver played by Brian Austin Green to the line early next year.
One leading teen magazine, TUTTI FRUTTI, even went so far as to encourage their readers to fill out a coupon printed in the magazine stating that it was unfair that the three cast members were not included in the line of dolls. All coupons were then forwarded to Mattel.
Like the dolls introduced this year, these three new dolls will sport all the hot fashions represented on the show and each will come with a Beverly Hills necessity -- a bathing suit.
When the initial line of dolls hit the shelves this summer kids lined up at stores to be the first to purchase these fashionable dolls.
The top-rated dramatic comedy, which focuses on the assimilation of a solid, value-oriented Midwestern family into an accelerated Beverly Hills lifestyle, has been renewed for an unprecedented two additional seasons with new episodes airing beginning July 16. "Beverly Hills, 90210," which deals with realistic issues faced by today's adolescents, has become a ratings phenomenon. It currently draws more teenage viewers than any other show on television, and has led the way in a trend toward new shows geared to the elusive teen market.
Mattel Inc. (NYSE: MAT) which reported 1991 record net sales of $1.65 billion, is a worldwide leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of children's toys. With headquarters in El Segundo, Calif., Mattel has offices and facilities in more than 20 foreign countries and sells its products in more than 100 nations throughout the world.
