NEW DEALER FACILITY PART OF BUICK DESIGN PROGRAM

NEW DEALER FACILITY PART OF BUICK DESIGN PROGRAM
FLINT, Mich., June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Ed Morse Buick of Davie, Fla.,

is the third Buick dealership to open a new retail facility under Buick Motor Division's Retail Environment Design Program.
Under the program, Buick offers dealers a variety of plans for improving or constructing their facilities and follows through the entire project with design consultation. All plans are in keeping with Buick's premium image and customer satisfaction goals.
Dealership owner Ed Morse said the facility is designed to welcome customers without being intimidating.
"We have had nothing but favorable comments from employees and customers," Mr. Morse said. "We had looked at doing a routine dealership structure, but after reviewing Buick's designs we knew we wanted one that reflected Buick quality and customer comfort."
Chris A. Wolf, Buick's assistant general sales manager-service, said the Buick program was developed in 1990 by the division and a group of its dealers. The intent is to provide dealers with a common design for building or renovating a facility that is consistent with the Buick image of premium American motorcars.
"With the help of some of our dealers we've compiled a comprehensive program that offers the architectural plans and assistance every dealer needs to become a retail design leader of our industry," Wolf said. "We believe the facility design will go a long way to instill customer satisfaction while projecting Buick's premium image."
The program includes several design plans that accommodate multi- nameplate dealerships as well as those solely carrying the Buick line. It includes plans for totally new construction or simple renovation, and takes into consideration varying budget constraints.
Mr. Morse's new dealership, which opened May 15, will showcase a reception area with an entertainment center and reading materials, product information center and retail accessories store.
"We sent out a mail piece to the almost 9,000 Buick owners within a 12-mile radius from the dealership, offering them a free lubrication, oil and filter change and an invitation to come see our new facility and get to know us," Mr. Morse said. "We want our customers to feel comfortable when they come to our dealership, not only with the facility but with our sales people."
Holiday Buick-Oldsmobile of Palmdale, Calif., and Pietroske Motors Inc. of Manitowoc, Wis., were the first two dealerships to build new facilities under the program. Seven additional dealerships have renovated their current structures.
Wolf said 69 other Buick dealers are currently planning to take advantage of the facilities program and hundreds of others are expected to in the near future.
Architectural and design experts who developed the program with Buick are CRSS, an architectural firm from Houston; Deiss and Associates, facilities planners based in St. Helena, Calif.; and Design Forum, a retail design consulting firm in Dayton, Ohio.
