NEW DAILY BUSINESS PROGRAM COMING TO PUBLIC TELEVISION; NATIONWIDE PREMIERE SET FOR EARLY JANUARY

NEW YORK, Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- A daily news broadcast for financial and business professionals debuts in early January on public television stations nationwide.
This early morning update on key economic, company, commodity and security market developments will bring information to the entire country that has been available only to institutional and corporate investors.
Co-produced by Maryland Public Television (MPT) and Bloomberg Business News (BBN), the program combines Bloomberg's 225 editorial staffers from 42 news bureaus worldwide with public television's unparalleled audience access and credibility.
The new show will air each morning as a companion to "AM Weather," MPT's popular national meteorological show. It will also be distributed over Bloomberg Financial Markets' 30,000 multimedia computer terminals in 135 countries around the globe.
"This joint effort is intriguing on several fronts," said Michael Bloomberg. "For viewers, it's a way to get the jump on the day's crucial information from the professional's perspective. For public television and Bloomberg, the association could lead to all sorts of technology sharing and distribution that's currently the exclusive province of the commercial TV industry."
"The program is a progressive and exciting extension of our existing state of programs," said Raymond K.K. Ho, president and chief executive of MPT, which also produces "Wall Street Week with Louis Rukeyser." "It's consistent with our charge to provide a diversified portfolio of programs to the public television system."
While the show is designed to appeal especially to viewers versed in business matters, it will also be useful to a more general audience usually denied this level of sophistication and comprehensiveness. Each show will consist of four segments: An in-depth analysis of the previous day's major events and their effects on U.S. employees and employers; live overviews from Asia and Europe of overnight international developments; a "Business Talk" segment of interviews with key company and government leaders; and an education piece exploring technical issues facing public and private securities issuers and investors.
Bloomberg L.P., the parent of Bloomberg Business News, is the world's fastest-growing provider of financial data, analysis and news. BBN publishes about 2,000 stories each day, and more than 50 newspapers worldwide carry a selection of its articles. Bloomberg L.P. also owns WBBR, an all-news, "no-crime" AM radio station in New York City.
Maryland Public Television is a major producer of public television programs in the United States and a leader in international co-productions. MPT produces more than 200 hours of national and international programs annually, including "To the Contrary," "Motorweek," "Pierre Franey's Cooking in America" and the new Julia child cooking series, "Cooking with Master Chefs."
