 NEW COMPANY FORMED TO MARKET EUROPE'S LEADING AUTOMOTIVE PAINT
 DETROIT, Dec. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- The Sherwin-Williams Company (NYSE: SHW) of Cleveland and Herberts GmbH of Wuppertal, Germany, announced today they have formed American Standox, Inc. to distribute Herberts Standox vehicle refinishing paints in North America. Herberts, a subsidiary of Hoechst A.G., is the market leading supplier of automotive coatings in Europe.
 "This is a major commitment to the North American automotive business by two major companies," said Rolf Jansson, head of the Vehicle Refinish Division of Herberts. "We're combining the strengths of Herberts and Sherwin-Williams to form a dynamic new company."
 According to Jim Krause, president of the Automotive Division of Sherwin-Williams, "We are combining the technology and marketing expertise of Herberts with the extensive distribution network and sales/ market knowledge of The Sherwin-Williams Company in vehicle refinishing."
 Herberts Standox will be distributed by a select group of Sherwin- Williams automotive stores, as well as through a network of independent distributors throughout North America.
 American Standox, Inc. will be headquartered in the Detroit area and include a state-of-the-art information and training center.
