NEW COAL-FIRED BOILER TO USE NOxOUT PROCESS

NAPERVILLE, Ill., Dec. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Nalco Fuel Tech announced today that it had received an award from Riley Stoker Corporation to supply the NOxOUT SNCR (selective non-catalytic reduction) Process for control of nitrogen oxide emissions from a new power boiler to be installed in Roanoke, N.C. The boiler will be owned and operated by LG&E Power Systems, a major U.S. independent power producer.
Although the NOxOUT Process is widely applied to industrial and utility units worldwide, this represents the first application of the NOxOUT Process to a new pulverized coal-fired boiler specifically designed to accommodate SNCR. "Riley and NFT have worked closely to integrate the NOxOUT Process into the design of the new boiler to maximize the control of nitrogen oxide emissions," said Roy Johnson, Vice President of Business Development at NFT. Nitrogen oxide emissions are a major cause of ground level smog and contribute to acid rain and respiratory ailments.
Nalco Fuel Tech, a joint venture between Fuel-Tech N.V. (NASDAQ: FTEKF) and Nalco Chemical Company (NYSE: NLC), is a leader in air pollution control technologies and provides products, services and chemicals built around the NOxOUT technology. The NOxOUT technology is now installed or under contract on more than 100 combustion units worldwide. State and federal regulations will require reduction in NOx emissions from existing sources beginning in May of 1995.
