NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE AT LUCAS INDUSTRIES

RESTON, Va., Nov. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- The Lucas Industries board announced today the appointment of George Simpson as chief executive. Simpson, currently deputy chief executive of British Aerospace plc and chairman of the Rover Group, will join Lucas on May 1, 1994, to take over the chief executive role from Sir Anthony Gill, who then becomes non-executive chairman.
Simpson, 51, joined the motor industry in 1969 and, after running a number of companies in related fields, became managing director of the Rover Group in 1988. He was appointed chief executive in 1991 and chairman later that year. He has been a director of British Aerospace, Rover's parent company, since 1990 and was appointed deputy chief executive in 1992.
Commenting on his new appointment, Simpson said: "Lucas is one of the great names in manufacturing and a recognized leader in the world's automotive and aerospace industries. I am delighted to be joining the successful Lucas team and to be taking over its leadership from Tony Gill. My experience at Rover and British Aerospace tells me that there are few more competitive business sectors than automotive and aerospace, and I understand fully the magnitude of my new challenge."
Gill, who was appointed group managing director in 1984 and became chairman and chief executive in 1987, said, "Lucas is a great company with strong positions in our chosen markets. George has a splendid track record, and the Lucas board is extremely pleased that he is joining us."
Lucas Industries is a leading international supplier of advanced technology systems, components and services to the world's aerospace, automotive and other selected markets.
