NEW CHIEF DEPUTY DIRECTOR APPOINTED FOR CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS

 SACRAMENTO, Calif., Sept. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Gov. Pete Wilson today congratulated Thomas M. Maddock on his appointment as chief deputy director for the California Department of Veterans Affairs.
 Maddock will receive an annual salary of $86,880 reflecting a five-percent reduction, as directed by the governor, from the established salary level. The appointment does not require Senate confirmation.
 Maddock, 47, of Folsom, was a deputy director for the Department of Consumer Affairs from 1991 to 1993. He was the public advisor for the California Energy Commission from 1988 to 1991. From 1986 to 1988, he was deputy chief of the Bureau of Automotive Repair, Department of Consumer Affairs.
 He is a veteran who served in the United States Coast Guard and currently holds the rank of captain in the Coast Guard Reserve.
 He is also a member of the Sacramento County Bar Association, The American Legion, and the Reserve Officers Association.
 A Republican, Maddock received a bachelor of arts degree in economics from the University of California at Davis in 1968, and earned a law degree at Hastings College of Law in San Francisco in 1977. He is admitted to practice in both California and the federal courts.
